What is Fascia?
Fascia is a continuous web of connective tissue that surrounds and supports every structure in the body. It wraps around muscles, bones, organs, nerves, and blood vessels, helping to hold everything in place while still allowing the body to move and function as an integrated whole.
Rather than being made of separate parts, the body is interconnected through this fascial network. Because fascia connects everything, tension or restriction in one area of the body can affect other areas as well. This is why pain or discomfort is sometimes felt in a place different from where the original tension began.
Healthy fascia is flexible, hydrated, and able to glide smoothly as the body moves. However, fascia can become tight or restricted due to injuries, repetitive strain, inflammation, surgery, emotional stress, or long-standing postural patterns. When this happens, it can create torsion or tension within the body, which may contribute to pain, limited mobility, or nervous system stress.
Gentle bodywork approaches like Craniosacral Therapy and myofascial unwinding work with the fascial system to help release these restrictions. As fascia softens and reorganizes, the body often regains greater ease of movement, improved circulation, and a deeper sense of balance.
